about

By Quintiliano Rios Perez

lyrics

In a cold morning the sun rose up in the sky
In a neighbor country where hope once again will shine
In the birth of a child, the product of their love
A newborn in the family who everyone adored

With two kids now, nuclear family of four
Both kids were little girls of their future not quite sure
As their parents were struggling with a difficult economy
Couldn't pay their education but had faith in their theology

Everyone seeking an spiritual revival
Because everyday life became a strive for survival
The prices of the food would rice very high
And for power politicians didn't hesitate to lie

Throughout the years the whole country gave up on its labor
The sad thing is that they decided to please its northern neighbor
Signing treaties and living upon all those broken promises
Families like these were left to drown in poverty

But the parents of this girl would fight to plant the seed
And provide a better future where their children would succeed
They got to write their own story, excellence in education
That's why they decided to escape their situation

They packed everything they could in a green back pack
They started walking on the trail and they never looked back
Left behind everything they accomplished so far
And a feeling of nostalgia quickly took over their hearts.

No papers
Don't give don't give up, success is on the way
No papers
Don't give don't give up, be stronger day by day.

They years passed time flies, eighteen years to be exact
They finally found a new place where they started from scratch
Yes they immigrated to the land of hope America
They young girl grew up and her parents named her Jessica

Jessica grew up enlightened by two cultures
Learned to write, learned to draw, she never lost composure
A promising student, she always found a way
She'll be the first one to go to college her whole family would say

However there was something which would make Jessica real sad
She tried not to think about it cus' it also made her mad
Upon her graduation she felt that the doors were closing trapping
All her dreams and leaving her with nothing cus'

She didn't have those nine numbers that you do
She lacked a state ID and a drivers license too
Neither her community service or the hustle everyday
Would pay her education, she didn't have financial aid.

Jess's undocumented, but that wouldn't stop her dreams
To attend a four year college, get a Bachelor's degree
She filled out applications every night she didn't sleep
And inside she was quite confident at the end she would succeed

She did get into college got good grades her freshman year
She pays out of her own pocket, got a job she babysits
She struggles everyday but it's a cause worth fighting for
She's an undocumented student and like her there's thousands more.

No papers
Don't give don't give up, success is on the way
No papers
Don't give don't give up, be stronger day by day.

Day by day now, day by day
Day by day now, day by day
We don't give up now
Day by day, day by day.

Day by day now, day by day
Day by day now, day by day
We keep going now
Day by day, Day by day
